Stop!
Award-winning interactive whiteboard activity for Applied Science
STOP! is Jason Drewett-Gray's award-winning interactive programme for whiteboard, and is the first winner in the British Nuclear Group Whiteboard Awards for Secondary Teachers.
The objectives of the programme are:
to understand the concept of stopping distance in an emergency stop and that it consists of thinking distance and braking distance;
to be aware of factors affecting braking distance;
to gather experimental data for reaction times and use these to calculate thinking distance at various speeds;
to introduce an investigation into other factors affecting thinking and braking distance
The programme has been designed to support Applied Science. The following are examples of its curriculum relevance:
AQA: Additional Science, Unit Physics 2 (P13.2);
OCR: Gateway Science, Module P3;
Edexcel: Additional Science, Module P2 (9.15 and 9.16);
